This Week's Concert
June 27, 2010
Note from the webmaster:  We update this web site at least once a week during our summer concert season.  Since the program for each Sunday concert is finalized at our rehearsal on Monday evening, we generally post the week's update sometime on Tuesday.  Unfortunately, if you are viewing this page on a summer Monday, what follows will undoubtedly be the information for YESTERDAY'S concert.
For those specifically SEEKING web pages from past concerts, our recent concert archives are now available online.

Our conductor this week is West Burlington band director Mark Eveleth.  Mark plays the trumpet and is a member of the South Hill Brass and the Bullis-Rutter Big Band.
Mark chose his selections in keeping with the theme, "the child in all of us."  This is music which will appeal not only to kids, but remind adults of their childhoods, as well.  Mark's selections include: Circus Days March by Karl King; Heraldic Legend by Elliot Del Borgo; the main theme from the Disney Pixar film The Incredibles, by Michael Giacchino arranged by Johnnie Vinson; The Best Years Of Our Lives from the Dreamworks film Shrek by David Jaymes and Geoffrey Deane, arranged by Ted Ricketts; the theme from Mel Brooks's Blazing Saddles by John Morris arranged by Jay Bocook; Cradlesong by Steven Barton; Bandology March by Eric Osterling; The Teddy Bear's Picnic by John W. Bratton arranged by Paul Yoder; Deck the Halls with Old Composers, a fun tune which combines themes by the great composers with the Christmas tune by Jerry Williams -- audience members who can identify every composer whose music is included will be eligible to contribute to the band; A Santa Cecilia March by Radaelli, arranged by Chuck Elledge; John Williams: Soundtrack Highlights by John Williams arranged by Jay Bocook -- we will perform only the portion from Harry Potter and the  Sorcerer's Stone; Hands Across the Sea March by John Philip Sousa arranged by Keith Brion and Loras Schissel (who was conductor Mark Eveleth's college roommate); and our traditional closing march, The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa.

This week's concert on June 27 will be our annual Teddy Bear's Picnic concert.  We are pleased that, after a year's hiatus, Grade A Plus is again scheduling its own Teddy Bear's Picnic activities in conjunction with our own.  We urge you to support the efforts of Grade A Plus in their work to promote healthy lifestyles and nonuse of illegal drugs.  Because of the increased activity in the area of the band shell we ask members of our audience to be patient and especially alert for small children as they drive in the park
As always, the concert will feature a Teddy Bear's Parade for kids of all ages (parents, you can march too) so join parade leader Marcia Korb and give your teddy bear an outing!  We invite everyone to bring his or her teddy bear!
