Note from the webmaster: We update this web site at least once a week during our summer concert season. Since the program for each Sunday concert is finalized at our rehearsal on Monday evening, we generally post the week's update sometime on Tuesday. Unfortunately, if you are viewing this page on a summer Monday, what follows will undoubtedly be the information for YESTERDAY'S concert.
This week's concert will be conducted by long-time band member Mike Lachnitt. Mike plays the clarinet when he's not conducting and is the proprietor of Lachnitt Music instrument Service Company, an instrument sales and repair business. Sometimes our conductors pick "themes" for their concerts and Mike has chosen an interesting one. He's calling this the "Looking Up" concert and all of his selections are related in some way to astronomy, weather, or other sky watching phenomena.
Mike's selections will be chosen from among the following selections: The NC-4 March by F.E. Bigelow; Feuerfest! subtitled "Fire Festival Polka" by Josef Strauss transcribed by Terry Vosbein; Transit of Venus March by John Philip Sousa, revised by Loras Schissel, Thunder and Lightning Polka by Johan Strauss arranged by Milburn E. Carey; The Invincible Eagle March by John Philip Sousa, edited and arranged by Brion and Schissel; Around the World by Victor Young, arranged by Alfred Reed; Riders in the Sky by Stan Jones, arranged by John Cacavas, featuring vocal soloist Andrew Reif; Rocky and Bullwinkle Strike Again by Fred Steiner, arranged by John Higgins; Funiculi - Funicula March by Charles J Roberts, arranged by L.P. Laurendeau; Stardust by Hoagy Carmichael, arranged by Philip Lang; and our traditional closing march, The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa.
Next week's concert
will be conducted by Adam Creager
One down, nine to go! We had a wonderful time last Sunday. It was a great turnout and so good to see all of our friends again. Several in the band mentioned feeling emotional about being back in the park and we know that it is you, the members of our audience, who make it all worthwhile! Thank you for your support!
